A few years ago, Song Confessional was invited to take confessions at a festival where Rayland Baxter was booked to play. A young woman came into our trailer who was grieving the simultaneous loss of her mother, brother, and grandparents. As you’ll hear in the confession, she’d come to the festival in the hopes of hearing Baxter sing “Willy’s Song”, one of her favorite songs and also the name of her recently deceased brother.
We shared this story earlier this year as part of our Book of Confessions, but you might want to re-listen to the confession and then go re-listen to “Albatross” and I promise you’ll hear it differently.
