Tony is my best friend’s wife’s brother’s best friend. He’s also a genuinely nice guy and a Grammy nominated singer-songwriter who’s “exceedingly smooth singing voice” you might recognize from Bluegrass outfit, Wood & Wire, or from seeing him play solo at venues like Devil’s Backbone Tavern in Fischer, Texas. That’s where I saw him perform last summer, and thought, “Dang. Tony should do a song for SC.”
WL : We shared four confessions with you from SXSW Sydney and you chose this one to turn into a song. Why?
Tony : As much as I wanted to write a story about the guy that threw a rubber glove full of piss at a construction worker, with a quick turnaround the classic “love triangle” felt like the most emotional path forward. The guy’s lack of remorse and/or regret really hit me in a visceral way. Like that fucked up scene at the end of “Love Actually” where that asshole goes to his best friends house holding those stupid ass signs trying to steal his wife with that prick smile on his face. Fuck that guy. That said, it held interesting, real emotions I was able to latch onto and ride.
WL : Would you be friends with this confessor?
Tony : Hell no.
WL : Which lyric are you the most proud of ?
Tony : “I know that you love him, and I love him too. I do.” I think that shows how high the stakes are in a subtle way.

Enjoy.
xoxo
